What is Clear View Fencing?
Clear View is the latest technology welded mesh fencing; it is mesh panel made up of wires which are welded together in a grid which then has 3 or 4 bends in it to make it into a rigid panel, these panels are then bolted to steel posts to assemble the fence forming a security barrier.
The name Clear View was derived because the fence offers an un-obscured view looking in or out which is great for security and works perfectly with CCTV cameras.
Clear View Fence Apertures
The spaces in the grid are called the apertures and typically come is 3 sizes:
- 76/50 – 76mm x 50.8mm aperture
- 76/25 – 76 x 25.4mm aperture
- 76/12 – 76 x 12.7mm aperture
The 76/12 is known as a
high security
fence and due to the small aperture and by default it has “anti climb” and “anti cut” features by nature of it’s design because the gap is too small for fingers to get a grip or for a cutting tool to get in.
Clear View Fence Wires
The wires can be 2.5, 3, 4 or even 5mm diamter and often a combination of wire sizes, common sizes are typically:
- 3 on 3mm wires
- 3 on 4mm wires
- 4 on 4mm wires
It goes without saying that the thicker the wires and the more bends the more rigid and strong the panel is.
Clear View Fence Rust resistance
Clear View panel can be made in 2 ways:
- Pre galvanised wire welded together and the welds then treated
- Wire welded together and then the entire panel is hot dipped galvanised which is by far the superior method for rust and corrosion resistance.
The panels can then also be plastic coated offering even more rust protection and can look great as this can be in a variety of colours with green and black being the most common.
Clear View Fence Bolting
When the fence panels are bolted to the posts there is a clamp commonly known as a “spider clamp” which is what holds the panel and it is then bolted to the post with a security bolt. A security bolt is made in such a way that once tightened the head “part where the spanner goes on” breaks off making a tamper proof connection that cannot be removed with a spanner.
Clear View Fence Sizes
Clear View Fencing usually comes in panels that are 2.95-3.0m long and in 3 different heights, 1.8m, 2.1m and 2.4m, other sizes can be ordered as a special.
Clear View Fence Posts
Posts will also vary depending on the fence and the wire, on a light domestic 76/50 fence with 3 on 3 wires posts would typically be 50x50x1.6mm square tube and there after 76x76x1.6mm square tube is more suitable and 76x76x2m square tube for the 2.4m high fence. For high security tall fences it is better to use IPE beams as posts.
It is best to match the posts to the panel as it would serve no purpose to use a high security panel with a post that is not suitable
Clear View Gates
It is quite common for industrial installations to have the gates made using the clear view panel as the infill. Blue Engineering manufactures these clear view gates.
Razor Wire and Electric Fencing
For added security the clear view fence can also be installed with flat wrap razor wire or razor coil and also electric fencing on top or piggy back or even both.
Not all Clear View Fencing is equal
As mentioned above the wires, apertures, posts and galvanising are all factors that make up the clear view fence and will make a substantial difference to the price and so when reviewing quotations, be sure to do a comparison of the materials to see that the fences are equal and make an informed decision.
